Darren Aronofsky’s Meth Project [mesmerizing]

Director of Black Swan, The Wrestler, The Fountain and of course the emotional brutal film Requiem for a Dream directs four small four PSAs for their anti-meth campaign. I picked the most powerful two that really capture emotional annihilation.

  1. Wow! I just love it when I get goose bumps because of this kind of stuff! Both clips are great, but I’m in awe with the first one. Reminds me a lot of Black Swan.

    • Me too, I saw the clip without knowing who was the director, but just while it finished I realized it must be him.

Requiem for a Dream is even more brutal than the first clip.

      • You are right. The clip is much more evocative of Requiem for a Dream. It’s been quite a while since I watched it, but it haunted me for a long time. The same thing happened with Black Swan, only that the haunting still lingers (a bit) – I have just seen it a few months ago. Aronofsky’s work marks the threshold (a rather thin line) of how much emotional tension I can put up with, before going crazy. In my view, the “magical realism” in his films is rather dark, but nevertheless, it still is magical realism. Brilliant!
