When I first laid my sleepy ever-tired eyes on one of Matt Stuart’s photographs, I wasn’t sure what another monkey-photographer with a spanking new DSLR would bring to the table, I mean haven’t I seen enough crap from photographers who take techno-brilliant garbage pictures of lifeless shoes and emotionless people passing by a street? Then like a speeding train jacked with busy Chinese workers hiding toward their electronics factory, it hit me. Irony.
His pictures are filled with irony. Little simple smaller than life situations we pass by everyday in the way to work or back from the gym (not that I go to a gym, god forbid). A situation in a no-situation zone of life. Trivial events that passes unnoticed in the vast endless void of the universe. This man captures it. Like the cliché of a colorful butterfly in the pale stale sewers of a modern urban ruthless city, his work is a blindingly bright shatter-speed snap in the dark face of this cruel world, capturing the brilliant colors of minimalistic unnoticed triviality.
To put it in simpler words, this dude is cool.
